Truman Medical Centers is a two-hospital, not-for-profit health system located in Kansas City, Mo. Our downtown location, TMC Hospital Hill, is the largest provider of outpatient specialty care in Kansas City, operates the busiest adult emergency department in the city and has one of the top Level 1 trauma centers in the Kansas City metropolitan area. Truman Medical Centers has received top clinical quality ratings from University Health System Consortium (UHC) in the areas of patient safety, performance improvement, and adult ICU care. TMC has also been named a top performer in heart attack and heart failure care by the Missouri Medical Quality Initiative program; one of "America's Best Hospitals" for asthma treatment by U.S. News and World Report; a "Top 100 Hospital" by Solucient for rating among the highest in improved patient outcomes and financial performance; a "Most Wired Hospital" by Hospitals and Health Networks; and along with the University of Missouri-Kansas City, received the designation of National Center of Excellence in Women's Health by the Department of Health and Human Services.

Ronald McDonald House provides a home away from home for families receiving medical treatment for their child. Ronald McDonald House provides temporary lodging for families in need.
The facility is located at 2501 Cherry, Kansas City, MO 64108 next to Children's Mercy Hospital.

University of Kansas Hospital Pet Partner teams visit patients and their families from 10:30 a.m. to noon, Sundays. They focus on visiting the Rehab, Adult Psych, and Pediatric units. This is a facility with a predictable rating. If you are interested, contact Amy Bennett at amyjobennett@att.net or at 913-894-6438.

Volunteers are needed at Research Hospital, 2316 E. Meyer Blvd, Kansas City, MO. Visiting is every Thursday from 1:30p to 3:00p. Currently four teams are covering 4 departments (alternating Thursdays) in outpatient and intensive care waiting rooms, a rehab unit, and inpatient eating disorder unit.
In Rehab, teams visit rooms and exercises with the patients as directed by a therapist. Additional teams are needed for relief of current teams and Research has requested for the expansion of the program in other areas of the hospital. Teams with predictable ratings are eligible to visit.
Volunteers must complete the hospital volunteer orientation (2-4 hrs) and have a current TB test. If you have a current test, bring proof at time of orientation.

The hospital holds a recognition luncheon for volunteer twice a year and provide volunteer designated underground parking next to entrance and the security office.

Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care is a nonprofit organization that has been enhancing life for the seriously ill and their families in nine counties in Kansas and Missouri since 1980. In addition to hospice, our programs include:
*Palliative Home Care, for people currently pursuing curative treatments. *Carousel, pediatric palliative care *Kansas City Palliative Medicine, physicians specializing in comfort care and symptom management. *Passages, counseling and resources for difficult transitions in life.
Pet therapy teams support patients and families during their journey through illness in their home, at a nursing home, or assisted living facility. Volunteers are matched with a patient and family in their area.
Volunteers are required to attend one day of the normal 14-hour training course. Fall training sessions will be held as follows:
September 22 - Providence Medical Center, KSKS (weekdays), 9:00a to 2:30p October 13 - Centerpoint Medical Center, Independence, MO (weekdays), 9:00a to 2:30p

Care Alternatives Hospice focuses on improving the quality of life of the patient by providing comfort for the mind, body, and spirit. The healing, calming power of the pet assisted therapy teams work in concert with the hospice mission. Our organization has patients all of the Kansas City metropolitan community, including Warrensburg, Tonganoxie, Excelsior Springs, Spring Hill, and everywhere in between.
